Community Meeting to Address Plans For Hollywood Beach

Hollywood City Commissioner Cathy Anderson and the Beach District of the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will host an informative District 1 Commissioner Meeting/CRA Beach District Showcase for residents and business owners at 7 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 2.

The community-focused event at the Hollywood Beach Culture & Community Center will address the current redevelopment activity and future plans for the Beach District, the economic engine for the entire city.

In addition to Anderson, whose District 1 includes the beach area, program participants will include Mayor Mara Giulianti, Beach District CRA Executive Director Gil Martinez, all City department heads and urban planner Bernard Zyscovich, who recently completed a planning and zoning study for Hollywood Beach.

Anderson said topics of discussion will include the campaign to have the pedestrian Broadwalk designated an historic Broadwalk; the need for a new fire-rescue station in the Beach District; details on upcoming development projects and their timelines; and the possible lifting of the temporary freeze on new beach construction.

Hollywood Beach’s ongoing redevelopment effort includes more than $120 million in public improvement projects, including the Broadwalk complete makeover now underway. In addition, the Zyscovich study makes bold recommendations for City codes, regulations and objectives in terms of future public and private development, and addresses new marketing and tourist development initiatives.

The District 1 Commissioner Meeting/CRA Beach District Showcase will include an opportunity for the public to ask City officials and department heads beach-related questions.
